Pokémon Legends Z-A rivals

Last updated: 2026-11-04 · Z-A notes checked 2026-11-04

Urbain or Taunie is your companion in Legends: Z-A. Which character appears depends on the appearance you select at the start. Both occupy the Hotel Z companion role described by the official character introduction and Serebii. Their battles belong to the Lumiose City adventure; they are separate from the browser games covered elsewhere on this site.

One biography, two names

Urbain and Taunie work and live at Hotel Z, helping AZ and the guests. Which companion you meet depends on the appearance selected at the start, rather than a separately selected difficulty setting. Both characters occupy the same companion role. They are skilled battlers and members of Team MZ. The official character introduction and Serebii’s character page independently establish the Hotel Z role. Starter-specific battle teams come from Serebii’s location table, which is one publisher even though it lists multiple teams.

Story battles, allied fights, and the reward match

The first direct companion battle is in Main Mission 3, A New Life in Lumiose City, with two starters at level 5. Main Mission 10, The Secrets of Mega Evolution, raises the team to levels 25–26. Main Mission 19, Reaching Rank D, also publishes companion teams, but the companion is your Multi Battle partner, so that encounter must not be counted as a duel against them. Main Mission 36, Prism Tower’s Dark Turn, supplies the full six-member Centrico Plaza battle at levels 62–64. The winner goes into the tower with Floette, making the battle a story decision rather than an ordinary city rematch.

Legends: Z-A uses real-time battles. Move range, attack timing, and positioning matter while both Trainer and partner move. The later Infinite Z-A Royale includes the companion as the fixed opponent at reward match 15, with a level-72 Floette that can Mega Evolve. That reward-match squad differs from Centrico Plaza, so the two teams are kept separate below. Where the mission tables list alternative teams without labeling the player’s starter, this guide preserves them as numbered published branches instead of assigning a guessed starter mapping. The linked location record supplies the starter-labeled Centrico variants.

Centrico Plaza: six-member teams and held Mega Stones as listed by the starter-labeled location record. Species labels preserve the forms displayed by Serebii.

Questions

Can Urbain and Taunie both appear?

Not in one save. The look you pick at the start chooses which of them stands beside you. Their scenes match.

Where do they work?

They live and work at Hotel Z and help AZ. The official character introduction and Serebii both describe that role.

Is the fighting turn-based?

Battles are real-time: Trainers and their partners move while attacks have timing, range, and area-of-effect constraints. The official gameplay page and Serebii both explain this system.
