Sinnoh’s rival in Platinum is Barry, the kid from Twinleaf Town who is always late, crashes into people, and talks about a fine for the collision. He is Palmer’s son. Palmer runs the Battle Tower. Barry is the only rival this page covers. Card sets that reuse the word Platinum belong in a shop, not here.

Starter choice and the weekend rematch

Barry takes the starter strong against yours: Turtwig gives him Chimchar, Chimchar gives him Piplup, and Piplup gives him Turtwig. For the post-game rematch, first obtain the National Pokédex and reach the Survival Area. He stands outside the Top Trainer Café and accepts battles on weekends. Serebii describes three rematch stages, with starter aces at level 65, 75, and 85. The other five team members also rise by ten levels per stage. These are Platinum rematches; they should not be substituted for his Diamond, Pearl, or remake teams.

Three closers in the Survival Area

Serebii splits the Survival Area rematch into three stages, levels 59–65, then 69–75, then 79–85, and says later stages follow extra clears on a weekend. The top stage changes with your starter. If you began with Piplup, the published closer is Staraptor 81, Rapidash 79, Floatzel 79, Snorlax 83, Heracross 82, and Torterra 85. If you began with Turtwig, Rapidash drops out, Roserade comes in at 79, and the ace is Infernape 85. If you began with Chimchar, Roserade and Rapidash share the middle and the ace is Empoleon 85. Staraptor, Snorlax, and Heracross sit in all three closers. I print all three squads because collapsing them would hide the starter link.

Why Diamond and Pearl stay off this grid

Diamond and Pearl end Barry’s ladder in a different place. Platinum moves the last argument to the Survival Area and lets the levels climb toward 85 after you have already won. Mixing those games into one row would invent a team that neither cartridge uses. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are newer releases with their own sheets. I leave them out until a page is ready to cite them on their own. The fine he charges when he bumps you is a story beat from the character page, not a battle reward, so it is not in the table.
